Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?

We always knew that we wanted to have our wedding down on the Bellarine Peninsula, close by to where we live. We had only been engaged for a few weeks when we spent a day visiting some of the local wineries, looking for a wedding venue. The first stop was Basils Farm, which at the time we had both never visited… and it definitely didn’t disappoint! From the moment we got there we just fell in love with the place, and nothing else compared. We always wanted our wedding to have a relaxed vibe, a cocktail reception and ideally be at a venue where everything was in one place. Basils Farm ticked all of the boxes. The natural beauty of the location, including the spectacular views of Swan Bay, surrounding vineyards and the luscious vegetable gardens, made it the perfect place for us to get married.

How did you find the planning process?

One year prior to our wedding, the planning process began and the vision for our special day started to come to life. We had many meetings and emails back and forth with the staff at Basils Farm, where they were always very helpful and answered any questions we had. They were flexible and accomodating with most of our requests and we loved the suggestions that they offered. We were also invited to a food and wine tasting, which was a lovely evening. Throughout most of the planning process, we worked with Talla, who was extremely helpful, before Georgie took over as the new Wedding & Events manager. The transition was smooth and it was lovely to continue working with someone with so much knowledge and experience with weddings. We were in great hands throughout the entire process!

What was your favourite moment on your big day?

We loved every part of the day! After the year we had, we weren’t even sure that our wedding would be able to go ahead (due to Covid restrictions) but we were extremely lucky that everything ended up going to plan. We couldn’t believe it, we were able to have all of our guests there and had the most perfect weather on the day. It was just so lovely to have all of our family and friends there to share our special day with us.

We have to say we also enjoyed the picnic that Basils Farm put together for us, which included drinks and canapés, that we were able to enjoy together after the ceremony. We found a beautiful spot near the lake where we were able to have a moment to ourselves and enjoy taking everything in.

What are some words of wisdom for future Basils couples?

Think about what is really important to you and your partner when planning your special day, not everyone else. We had a clear vision for our day that didn’t include some of the ‘traditional’ aspects of a wedding and we wanted it to be our own style. It ended up being a beautiful, relaxed day where we had so much fun and so did our guests! Basils Farm really is a unique venue with so much to offer, so don’t be afraid to put your own spin on things and create a day that you’ll always remember.

How was the service on the night? Is there a particular staff member that you would like to acknowledge?

Many of our guests commented on the fantastic service on the night. The staff were friendly and approachable and were always there to assist in any way they could. If there were any issues they would be dealt with quickly, ensuring the day/night ran smoothly. The staff accommodated our guest’s food and dietary requirements and anything extra that we requested. A special mention to the chef, the food was absolutely delicious and our guests haven’t stopped raving about how good it was!

Any other comments you may like to add?

Thank you to everyone at Basils Farm for making our day so special. We loved every bit of it! After the year we had and having Plan A, Plan B and Plan C in place, we never thought it would have turned out the way it did. We will definitely be speaking very highly of Basils Farm.
